So what exactly makes a print antique? is it just age? or is quality a factor too?
... as for age, just how old should it be? or does it depend on the print.

for me generally speaking if a print was actually published around 1940-1980, it can be called vintage.
for 1981-today, and it isn't brand new, then second hand would best describe it.
items published before 1940 can be described as antique prints.
sounds like a good definition to me!
so you don't think quality is a factor?
>>so you don't think quality is a factor?
no not really!
although it is a problem of course as many people equate age with quality which isn't always the case at all.
Hello, My name is Simon, I am from Phoenix, AZ, I am an Artist and I appreciate all Art,
I was wondering if you had any information about Colton, Zahm and Roberts? ( a New York Company) and the relationship with August V. Heckel? (1824-1883) I have a Print (chromolithograh) that was sold to the President of the United states in the 1800's -there are initials JQA on the back, and additional writing that I cannot make out, and mason writing. It was given as a gift to one of his workers (perhaps slave) which was my GGGG Grandmother ( I think there is one more G or less than, sorry) anyways, it hung over the fireplace of this Presidents home. One retired appraisal person out here in Arizona, told me the initials could be the president, but it would have to be after his tern was over since the Artist was born in 1824 It was owned by a Woman who was in my family, she handed it down to everyone, until I received it, it is in Fair shape not poor, but not excellent condition. (some cracks) it is getting very old -I appraised the gold layered over the wood as pure gold, and the nails are dated from the late 1700's. If you can help I would appreciate it, I am trying to Sell, or at least get information on it, To many places like Sotherby's or other big name companies want money for information, but can tell me it is worth something, and will offer very small amounts. and In these economic times I just cannot do that. and cannot afford any appraisal fees anymore - I am a teacher unemployed, But any help can do. I just need just a little information please, like where to find an Inventory List from the company (Colton,Zahm and Roberts) maybe that has receipts on what they sold, or from the presidents of the time, maybe a something. I am sorry to bother you, I know you are a hard worker, so please forgive me, but I have working with this for at least 9years, I am patient but I'm very curious, and this is hard I know he was not a famous artist, but If I could get any proof about the buyer, instead of a story, I do believe my family because most of the dishes that my Aunt sold were in fact from a Zachary Taylor, and some furniture, was sold also, but she is distant from me, and is only willing to help if she gets most of the proceeds (like 90/10) , so I just rather do this on my own, but as you can tell, I am not getting anywhere, since I have not funds, once again any response will be appreciated. Have a great day, and sorry once again to bother you.
Thank you, -Simon
